Great Summertime Cocktail Recipes
It's the middle of the summer, and you're reclining on your favorite patio chair. After all that yard work, you've earned this. The lingering smells of freshly cut grass and neighborhood barbecues combine to leave you in a state of lucid nostalgia. The sounds of children playing in the background provide a hypnotic droning you've adopted as your latest mantra. The sounds grow louder and louder as you realize the children once playing in the background have just sprinted past you - knocking down your half finished Mojito. Don't panic. These summer cocktail recipes have been especially concocted to send you right back to nirvana.
Mojito
Place 2 lime wedges and about 6 mint leaves in a highball glass with a packet of sugar in the raw and a splash of Bacardi rum. Using a muddler, mash it all together. Add ice, 1.5 oz. Bacardi rum, and top with seltzer and a sprig of mint. You can add other fruit as well such as fresh blackberries, cherries, strawberries, or raspberries. We even had a mango Mojito recently that was out of this world.
Daiquiri
Pour 1.5 oz. Bacardi rum and the juice of a half a lime into a shaker filled with ice. Add 1 tsp. powdered sugar. Shakes and strain into a hurricane glass. Garnish with lime slice.
Pina Colada
Combine 1.5 oz. Bacardi Black or Select rum, 2 oz. Coco Lopez coconut cream, 2 oz. unsweetened pineapple juice, and 6 oz. of cracked ice in a blender. Mix on a low speed until creamy. Pour into a hurricane glass and garnish with a pineapple slice.
Michelada
Combine 12 oz. beer, the juice of 1 lemon, 2 dashes Worcestershire sauce, 1 dash Tabasco sauce, 1 pinch of black pepper, and a touch of salt. Add lots of ice and garnish with a lime wedge.
Sangria
Cut up 2 cups of mixed fruit (apples, oranges, lemons, strawberries). Put them in a pitcher. Add 2 oz. of Cointreau and 2 oz. of brandy or cognac. Add a bottle of inexpensive dry red wine or white or sparkling wine and let it sit for at least two hours. Serve in a wine glass with ice.
